Africa's Oil Spill Governance Hub

Background

Oil spills remain one of the most critical environmental and socio-economic challenges in Nigeria, particularly across the Niger Delta — degrading fragile ecosystems, disrupting livelihoods, and impacting national economic stability.

Event Context

Since its establishment in 2006, NOSDRA has led Nigeria's oil spill management efforts. NIOSS 2026 is envisioned as Africa's premier Presidential-backed platform on oil spill governance — modelled after IOSC (USA) and INTERSPILL (Europe).

Multi-Stakeholder Convergence

A global-standard forum converging policymakers, industry leaders, investors, and communities to address innovative response strategies, stronger institutional collaboration, and alignment with global best practices.
